What Is CBD?

CBD has become a key topic for dog and pet owners as well as the general public.  What exactly is CBD, and how can it be helpful for your pet?

CBD stands for “cannabidiol”. Essentially this is a derivative of the hemp plant that is typically used for producing medical marijuana. CBD does not contain THC, the ingredient in marijuana that causes a “high” or altered mental state. This also means that it is available in all 50 states.

CBD for dogs has proven to be a popular and effective treatment for a number of health related issues.

CBD Topical Oil For Dogs

Skin issues are super common in dogs. Just like people, dogs can suffer from seasonal itchy skin, rashes, inflammation and dryness. Topical oil may provide some relief.  The oils are administered by droppers in any number of ways, from adding it to their food or treats, to giving it directly to them orally, or applying it topically to the skin.

CBD Tinctures

CBD tinctures are made a little differently, and are alcohol based. (A lot of products labeled tinctures are actually oils, so be sure to check) These are pretty much interchangeable with oils in terms of usage. Tinctures have a little longer shelf life, but are a little more bitter in taste.

CBD Dog Treats

CBD oil can be added to any of your dog treats. This can be done in a number of ways. If your dog loves dry treats, you can soak the treat with the oil (add it with a dropper, or put it in a small bowl to soak) and give it that way. You can add it directly to their wet food, or into a little peanut butter to make it more attractive to her. You can find ready-to-eat CBD dog treats like these:
